Well, I did something that I haven't ever done in my life time. I ran a road race on Sat. I'm not sure what got into me but two weeks ago I saw where they were having this race. Wayne was the first to mention it and I thought yeah, but I want to do it too. Well it turned out that Wayne wasn't actually able to run, even though we paid his entry fee. So I just went by myself, which made me a little nervous. Anyways it was a four mile race, little longer than a 5K. I will post the site so if you are curious you can see how I did. Just so you know you may have to scroll down a ways. http://www.thonline.com/grandviewgallop/
Anyways I know that some of you have called and wondered how we are doing with the floods. Dubuque is acutually doing quite well. Some flooding but our downtown is good. Wayne says it's because Dubuquers got smart after some flood that happended in the 60's and built a dike as long as the city. So we are good. But my heart does go out to those who aren't as fortunate in Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, and Waterloo. There are going to be some heavy losses to those communities. Having come through a flood in 1985 that really devastated my home of Franklin, West Virginia. I understand when people say they don't have water to drink or even to wash their clothes. I understand the power being off for weeks (we didn't have power for the whole month of Nov '85) I remember walking into my grandparents home and seeing mud up to my knees. Today in church we had a few families visiting because they are displaced right now. One young man told me that he thought his house wasn't good because they only live a block from the Cedar River. I was speechless. I am so thankful for my all my many blessings, one the blessing of where I've come from, the other of where I am today.
